Traveling in South Asia for the first time?

If you are traveling to South Asia for the first time, remember that Asia is different. Asia is the cradle of the some of the greatest religions and philosophies of the world. People’s values, motivations and mindsets do differ. To some the pace of life will seem slow. This is after all an ideal backdrop for a great holiday. Some of our tours feature such locations, where time has stood still and an ancient way of life is followed. Sri Lanka in one sense a developing Nation, but its people are by and large content with life and a lifestyle - especially in the rural areas. This is best symbolized by the warmth and friendliness you will encounter on tour. Their life style is dictated by what they need for the day. When a Sri Lankan smiles, so do his eyes - The eyes are after all said to be the windows of the soul. Time in rural Sri Lanka stands still and rushing around isn’t seen as a necessity. Punctuality may suffer as a result. Remember to enjoy the journey, as it’s a part of the experience in Sri Lanka. Just getting to where you want isn’t the total experience- experience life as you pass through the fascinating landscape and many villages and do stop if you want to explore!

“We gather materials for our pleasure from outside, when true happiness grows to its perfection from within” - Rabrindranath Tagore

Support services you may be used to and take for granted may not be evident and accessibility to locations difficult. The journey in these lands is considered a part of destination and the experience. To us this is what a holiday is about. Serendipity was coined describing Sri Lanka, meaning “pleasant unexpected occurrences”

If you don’t seek a different experience from the routine why leave home? If you do seek an experience like no other, get in touch and Retreat from Reality – Travel Retreats style.

A few caveats

Creating an experience is also not easy - as perceptions differ and whilst we strive to provide you with what you want we would like to hear from you at booking stage if you think we are not meeting your expectations.

You should check with your relevant travel ministry and take out travel insurance. Also please check on health and safety requirements of your Country. Our Insurance on tour is limited to fixed amounts for non-performance covering hotel and car hire components.

You should also bear in mind that part of the holiday experience of the Asian sub continent is the fact that they are developing Countries and in that lack of commercialization lies some of its allure and beauty. When away from home remember things can be different and if that’s not part of the experience you want – why leave home?
